(Photo suspplied)Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-chat has set up a "Thai-ism committee" to direct development projects to lift the quality of life for poor people nationwide in the run up to the much-delayed general election and beyond. The sizeable 61-member panel, named officially a "steering committee for national development under sustainable Thai Niyom (Thai-ism) projects" was revealed in an announcement from the Prime Minister's Office on Tuesday. Gen Prayut will himself chair the committee, with Gen Prawit Wongsuwon, deputy prime minister and defence minister, as one of his deputies. The prime minister later also pointed to Thai Niyom outside a political context, referring to "Thai Niyom development projects" that will go hand in hand with the 20-year national strategy.
